Al-Gharibawi - The oil and gas law has been facing political obstacles for 15 yearsAl-Maalouma/Baghdad..
Member of the Parliamentary Oil and Gas Committee, Basem Al-Gharibawi, confirmed today, Wednesday, that the oil and gas law has been facing political obstacles for more than 15 years.
Al-Gharibawi said, in a statement to Al-Maalouma Agency, that “the oil and gas law has been suspended since 2007 due to deep political differences between the concerned parties.”
He explained that “the core of the dispute revolves around Article 112 of the Constitution, which is the basis for regulating the management of the oil and gas file in the country,” noting that “this article is still subject to differing views on the mechanisms for its implementation.”
He added that “one of the most prominent points of contention is the formation of the Oil Federation Council, its management mechanism, and the nature of member representation in it, in addition to disagreements over the formation of the specialized technical committees,” indicating that “the rounds of dialogue and discussions between the relevant parties did not result in a final agreement that would pave the way for the approval of the law.”
