Member of Parliament Bassem Khudair, on Wednesday, sent a strongly worded warning message regarding the violations of Iraqi territory and water borders, stressing that national sovereignty is a red line that cannot be violated.
Khudair said in a statement to Al-Maalouma Agency, “The Khor Abdullah Agreement is null and void from the outset, as it came as a continuation of Security Council Resolution No. 833 of 1993, which was an unjust and unfair decision against Iraq.” He pointed out that “this resolution later laid the foundation for concluding the agreement with Kuwait, which reality has proven to be invalid.”
He added, “The Federal Supreme Court has already nullified the Khor Abdullah Agreement, which strengthens Iraq’s position of rejecting partition after Pillar 162 with Kuwait,” indicating that “Khor Abdullah will remain Iraqi and we will not allow any inch of it to be relinquished in favor of the Kuwaiti side.”
Khadir continued, “The Khor Abdullah Agreement, which was previously voted on by the Iraqi Parliament, was a humiliating agreement and a clear violation of the country’s sovereignty,” stressing that “the priority of the House of Representatives and the government must be to preserve Iraq’s land and maritime borders and reject any attempt to tamper with them.”
