The head of the Parliamentary Communications and Transport Committee, Representative Zahra Al-Bajari, called on the Parliament Presidency and political blocs on Saturday to activate the file of interrogating officials, especially those files that meet the constitutional requirements, stressing at the same time the importance of approving the Maritime Authority Law during the next legislative session.
Al-Bajari said in a statement to Al-Maalouma Agency, “Parliament will resume its sessions in the final legislative session on the ninth of next month,” noting that “most political forces seek to ensure that this session is effective and resolves the most important laws directly related to the lives of citizens.”
She added, “The Parliamentary Communications and Transport Committee called on the Parliament Presidency to include the Iraqi Maritime Authority Law on the agenda, given its significant impact on achieving Iraqi sovereignty over the maritime transport sector and ensuring that the Iraqi flag is raised over our tankers instead of continuing to fly the Jordanian flag in exchange for financial sums.”
Al-Bajari continued: “We also called for activating the file of interrogations, especially those that meet the constitutional requirements, with the aim of strengthening oversight and holding negligent parties accountable.”
It is noteworthy that Iraqi oil and commercial tankers have been flying the Jordanian flag since the 1990s, in exchange for paying fees to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.
