The US Embassy to Shafaq News - Baghdad has responded to requests for security support and Washington is closely monitoring the situation in IraqShafaq News/ The US Embassy in Iraq confirmed on Sunday that additional departures of some of its employees had been implemented as a precautionary measure against escalating regional tensions. The embassy stressed that operations at the embassy in Baghdad and the consulate general in Erbil were continuing as usual.

An embassy spokesperson told Shafaq News Agency, “The US mission in Iraq began an orderly departure of some employees on June 12th, out of concern for safety, due to the regional escalation,” noting that “an additional number of employees left Iraq on June 21st and 22nd, as part of the same process.”

In response to a question about the current operational status, the spokesperson confirmed that “the US Embassy in Baghdad and the Consulate General in Erbil remain open and operating as usual,” noting that the US Department of State “continues to closely monitor the security situation throughout Iraq and has no higher priority than the safety and security of US citizens.”

Regarding security coordination, the spokesperson said, “The embassy is working closely with the Iraqi government, and our Iraqi partners have responded positively to our requests for support,” without providing further details on the nature of these measures.

These developments came after US military strikes against underground Iranian nuclear facilities, sparking a wave of warnings from Tehran that US interests in the region would be targeted.

The US embassy compound in the Green Zone in central Baghdad is under heavy protection by Iraqi special forces, in addition to US security units, at a time when Iraqi airspace is witnessing increased drone and cruise missile activity amid the escalating confrontation between Iran and Israel.
