The Ministry of Transport announced on Wednesday that six Iraqi airports are linked to the “Development Road” project, three of which are new. The Ministry’s Director of Public Relations and Media, Maitham Al-Safi, told the official agency that “Mosul International Airport will open in the coming days and is of great importance, given that Nineveh Governorate is the second most populous province after the capital, Baghdad, and is located on the development road project.”
He also pointed out that “the governorate will be linked to the development road project to ensure integration in the transportation and economic sectors, both for the governorate and for Iraq in general. After that, there will be a qualitative shift for the governorate, connecting it to the world and the international region.”
He explained that “airports will be one of the most important projects in Iraq, as there are six airports that will be operational in Iraq, including (Baghdad, Basra, and Najaf), and the airports of (Karbala, Nasiriyah, and Mosul) will be added to them, and all of these airports are on the path to development.”
He added, “The opening of the airports coincides with the delivery of a number of modern aircraft from Boeing, including the MAX and Dreamliner, through 2027. These aircraft will be a qualitative addition to the world of Iraqi aviation and will encourage the revitalization of this important sector.”
