MP Zuhair al-Fatlawi affirmed on Tuesday that Khor Abdullah is an integral part of Iraqi geography, praising the Federal Supreme Court’s decision to annul the demarcation agreement, considering it a patriotic step to protect the country’s supreme interests.
Speaking to Al-Maalouma, al-Fatlawi said, “Khor Abdullah is 100% Iraqi geographically and sovereignly, and we await the Federal Court’s decision on the appeal filed by the Presidency of the Republic and the Prime Minister, which is scheduled to be decided on June 22.”
He added, “The Federal Court’s decision to annul the agreement months ago was correct and reflects a solid national vision that serves Iraq’s interests, especially since the creek represents the only sea outlet for Basra’s ports to the Arabian Gulf.”
Al-Fatlawi pointed out that “there are attempts by well-known parties to confuse the situation and distort the facts in the eyes of the public, but we seek to mobilize a broad popular response to affirm the national position rejecting any concession over Khor Abdullah,” stressing that “popular and parliamentary pressure continues in support of the court’s decision, which represents the will of the people and a legal vision to protect the country’s sovereignty.”
It’s worth noting that broad political and parliamentary forces expressed their full support for the Federal Court’s decision, considering the ceding of Khor Abdullah to Basra’s ports an economic strangulation and a direct threat to Iraq’s strategic interests.
