Shafaq News/ The head of the Iraqi Atomic Energy Commission and Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Naeem Al-Aboudi, announced on Sunday that an agreement is about to be signed with the China Atomic Energy Corporation regarding laying the foundation stone for the first subcritical training reactor in Iraq.
During a press conference held today, Al-Aboudi said that the agreement is an educational project aimed at developing the skills of students and researchers in the fields of nuclear physics and peaceful radiation technologies.
The minister also reported that three sites within the Tuwaitha complex, southeast of the capital, Baghdad, were free of any radioactive contamination.
He explained that the sites being treated include the French LAMA laboratories, the Italian radioisotope production facility, and the Tammuz 2 nuclear research reactor. He emphasized that these sites underwent comprehensive radiation surveys based on precise scientific methodologies and national partnerships with relevant institutions, and that all results proved that the sites were free of any radioactive waste that could pose a threat to public health.
