Shafaq News/ Secretary of State Marco Rubio affirmed on Thursday that the Kurdistan Region will remain a key factor in strengthening relations with Iraq.
A statement by the US State Department, seen by Shafaq News Agency, stated that Rubio had a phone call on Wednesday evening with Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani, during which they discussed the importance of continued cooperation to promote stability and prosperity in Iraq, Syria, and the region.
The US Secretary of State commended the Kurdistan Regional Government for its partnership with American companies and its efforts to harness local resources for Iraq’s energy independence.
Rubio emphasized that US support for the Kurdistan Region will remain a key aspect of the US relationship with Iraq.
On Wednesday evening, a statement received by Shafaq News Agency stated that Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani received a phone call from US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. The two sides discussed the importance of continued coordination between the two countries to support stability and peace in Iraq, Syria, and the region in general.
The US Secretary of State thanked President Nechirvan Barzani for his role and efforts in resolving issues between the Iraqi federal government and the Kurdistan Regional Government through understanding and constructive dialogue.
Rubio emphasized that US support for the Kurdistan Region remains a “fundamental principle of the US strategic relationship with Iraq.”
In turn, President Barzani thanked the United States for its support for Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.
