Shafaq News/ US Secretary of State Marco Rubio affirmed on Saturday his country’s commitment to supporting the Kurdistan Region within the framework of federal Iraq, emphasizing that this support is an essential and strategic part of US policy in the region under the administration of President Donald Trump.
Rubio’s remarks came during his meeting with Kurdistan Regional Government Prime Minister Masrour Barzani in Washington, D.C., as part of the latter’s official visit to the United States, according to a statement issued by the regional government.
The US Secretary of State reiterated his country’s readiness to support the Kurdistan Regional Government in various fields, commending the region’s role in hosting refugees and displaced persons and protecting the rights of diverse ethnic and religious groups.
He also emphasized the importance of resuming Kurdistan Region oil exports via the Iraq-Turkey pipeline and expressed his interest in the ongoing reforms within the regional government, particularly in the areas of economic diversification and ensuring Kurdistan’s constitutional and financial rights.
It’s worth noting that Kurdistan Regional Government Prime Minister Masrour Barzani had extended an official invitation to US Secretary of State Marco Rubio to visit Erbil during their meeting in Washington, D.C., as part of an official visit aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and discussing regional developments.
