Kurdistan Region - We sell crude oil on the local market at low pricesShafaq News/ Secretary of the Kurdistan Regional Government’s Council of Ministers, Amanj Rahim, stated on Thursday that the regional government is selling oil in local markets at low prices due to the federal government in Baghdad’s failure to resume exports via the Turkish port of Ceyhan.

During a panel discussion on the sidelines of the energy conference in Washington, Rahim said that the Kurdistan Region was forced to export oil via the Turkish port of Ceyhan after the federal government cut its share of the country’s general budget in 2014.

He stressed that since 2005, there has been no oil and gas law in Iraq, and that it must be enacted to regulate the management of this sector in accordance with the law.

Rahim also pointed out that the agreements and contracts concluded in the energy sector by the Kurdistan Region are constitutional and have been approved by the Karkh Court in Baghdad.

He noted that Kurdistan Region oil exports have not yet resumed, and that we are selling crude oil on the local market at low prices, adding: “We in the Kurdistan Region have incurred huge losses due to the suspension of these exports.”

The Secretary of the Kurdistan Regional Government’s Council of Ministers stressed that resuming the region’s oil exports would benefit not only Kurdistan but Iraq as well, adding, “We are looking forward to resuming these exports, which reach 300,000 barrels per day.”
