MP Yasser Al-Husseini accused the current government on Wednesday of squandering the country’s economic gains and wasting public funds in order to achieve political gains and pave the way for a second term for Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani.
Al-Husseini said in a statement to Al-Maalouma Agency, “The government has gone and continues to squander the country’s resources in order to remain in power, without taking into account the national interest or the demands of the people.”
He added that “the Prime Minister’s insistence on holding the summit in Baghdad, despite widespread opposition and discontent on the Iraqi street, reflects his quest to impose his political agenda.” He pointed out that “the concessions offered to Kuwait on the Khor Abdullah issue also come within the framework of seeking external support to serve his electoral ambitions.”
He pointed out that “the government has spent nearly a trillion dinars without tangible results, which represents administrative chaos and squandering of public funds with the aim of creating political and popular momentum to support its continuation in a second government term.”
