Shafaq News/ The Director of the Southern Region Operations Department at the Middle Oil Company, Firas Fawzi, confirmed on Tuesday that the East Baghdad oil field will enter the gas production phase in September of next year.
Fawzi told Shafaq News Agency, “After the completion of oil production in the East Baghdad field, production is expected to reach 120,000 barrels per day by June 2026,” indicating that “after that, the gas production phase will be entered.”
Fawzi added, “Gas production in the East Baghdad field will begin in September 2026, with an estimated daily production of 25 to 50 cubic meters.”
He pointed out that “the route of the gas pipeline produced is exported from the oil field to the Bismayah power station through the construction of a new 12-km pipeline linking the power station to the oil field.”
On Wednesday, April 30, the Iraqi Ministry of Oil signed an annex to the contract for developing the southern part of the East Baghdad oil field with the Chinese company EPS.
This came during a ceremony held today at the Ministry of Oil, under the patronage of Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Affairs and Minister of Oil Hayan Abdul-Ghani Al-Sawad, who affirmed the ministry’s commitment to maximizing production by developing oil fields in line with the ministry’s plans and the government’s program, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Oil.
The statement quoted the minister as saying that signing the contract will increase oil production from the East Baghdad field by up to 100,000 barrels per day by expanding the contracted area in that region, noting that the field currently produces between 45,000 and 50,000 barrels per day.
