Security expert Fadel Abu Raghif confirmed on Monday that Washington’s recent moves do not mean a retreat from the withdrawal.
Abu Raghif said, in a statement to Al-Maalouma Agency, that “the ongoing American movements in Iraq and the region do not imply any change in the decision to withdraw American forces from Iraqi territory,” stressing that “this decision remains firm and has not undergone any amendment despite the logistical and political changes in the region and the world.”
He explained that “the date for the withdrawal of American forces from Iraq still stands according to what was agreed upon between Baghdad and Washington,” noting that “all indications point to September of next year witnessing the complete end of the American military presence in the country.”
He pointed out that “the recent movements by the American side fall within the framework of repositioning and logistical coordination, and do not carry within them any intention to backtrack on the agreement or postpone the withdrawal date,” adding that “the American withdrawal is an entitlement that was agreed upon according to a clear timetable, and enjoys official and popular Iraqi consensus.”
