Representative Ahmed Majeed Al-Sharmani revealed, on Thursday, that more than 100 signatures have been collected to adopt the electronic voting system instead of manual voting to prevent the farce of MPs’ absence and the repeated passing of one-basket laws.
Al-Sharmani told Al-Maalouma Agency, “We have begun collecting parliamentary signatures from more than 100 MPs to adopt attendance and electronic voting.”
He added that “adopting electronic voting will reduce the number of absent MPs,” noting that “many laws are voted on in the House of Representatives by raising their hands, a mechanism that is considered inaccurate from the point of view of many MPs.”
He pointed out that “adopting electronic voting will guarantee the rights of the Iraqi people and prevent repeated absence from sessions and the passing of laws without a legal quorum.”
