The Parliamentary Finance Committee revealed, on Thursday, that the government of Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani has no intention of sending the 2025 budget tables to the House of Representatives, despite more than five months having passed since the beginning of the current year.
Committee member Moeen Al-Kadhimi told Al-Maalouma Agency, “Current data indicates that the government is not serious about sending the 2025 budget tables to Parliament for a vote, which means that it will be delayed beyond the scheduled date.”
He added, “The government bears the consequences of the delay, especially since the three-year budget approved in 2023 included the years 2023, 2024, and 2025, but stipulated that the amended tables for each year be sent separately.”
He pointed out that “the 2023 budget amounted to approximately 199 trillion dinars, and was amended in 2024 to reach 211 trillion dinars. The 2025 budget tables were supposed to be sent before the end of last year, but that has not happened yet.”
