The Iraqi government confirmed to Shafaq News that all Arab countries will attend the Baghdad summitShafaq News/ The Iraqi government denied on Saturday the existence of an official statement stating that some countries would not participate in the Arab Summit in Baghdad.

Government spokesman Bassem al-Awadi told Shafaq News Agency, “The reports and information that Arab countries have refused to participate in the Arab League meeting in Baghdad are incorrect.”

Al-Awadi added, “All Arab countries have confirmed their attendance so far, and we have not been informed of any Arab country abstaining from attending at all.”

The Arab Summit is scheduled to be held in Baghdad on the 17th of this month, amid extensive Iraqi preparations for security and services.

A few days ago, controversy arose in Tunisia over a wheat shipment donated by Iraq. Tunisian opposition parties asserted that it was a “bribe” for Tunisia’s participation in the summit, especially following popular calls to boycott it.

Syria’s participation in the Arab Summit, or the level of its representation, has yet to be decided. Shafaq News Agency previously revealed that Syrian interim president Ahmed al-Sharaa had requested US protection for his participation in the summit. Other sources reported that he might participate, but the dates of his arrival and departure were not disclosed.
