Interior Minister Abdul Amir Al-Shammari stressed on Wednesday the need to declare war on corruption.
A statement from his office stated that Al-Shammari “chaired a conference for the Directorate of Personnel Security to review the first quarter of 2025, in the presence of a number of directors of this important division of the Ministry of Interior in Baghdad and the governorates.”
Al-Shammari stressed, according to the statement, “working in accordance with the institutional state system to guarantee the rights of officers and members in accordance with approved laws, issuing a series of recommendations, foremost among which is that there should be no favoritism at the expense of citizens’ rights, treating them well and knowing their needs. He stressed the importance of going out into the streets and helping citizens, in addition to not neglecting any of the investigative councils and papers related to extortion, bribery and other violations punishable by law, and completing them within the specified timeframe.”
He explained that “the officers and personnel in this directorate were selected according to high professional and technical standards that enable them to perform their assigned duties to the fullest extent possible. Therefore, they must be up to the responsibility. He emphasized the need to declare war on corruption clearly and unambiguously, without showing favoritism or fear, as deterrence can only be achieved through insistence on making decisions and not dropping lawsuits.”
The Minister of Interior directed that personnel security officers maintain a database of all employees in their departments and that they have access to comprehensive information in this regard, using modern, advanced technical methods.
