Parliamentary Finance - The budget is in effect but the schedules have not yet reached ParliamentAl-Maalouma/Baghdad…
The Finance Committee of the House of Representatives confirmed on Sunday that the government is continuing to work according to the three-year budget approved last year, despite the fact that the 2025 budget tables have not yet been sent to Parliament. The committee noted that the delay is unjustified, but does not impede the implementation of projects or the disbursement of dues.
Member of the Parliamentary Finance Committee, Moeen Al-Kadhimi, told Al-Maalouma that “the 2025 budget tables are still with the government and the Ministry of Finance and have not yet been sent to Parliament.” He explained that “the delay may be due to austerity measures, but it remains unjustified, especially with the middle of the year approaching.”
Al-Kadhimi added that “the government will continue to work according to the three-year budget approved by Parliament last year, as this budget allows for spending on ongoing projects, in addition to enabling the Ministry of Finance to issue bonuses and promotions for employees without the immediate need for new tables.
” He pointed out that “a meeting was held last week between the Finance Committee and the government inside the Government Palace, devoted to a workshop that discussed mechanisms for controlling the state’s public revenues.”
It’s worth noting that Parliament approved a three-year federal budget in 2023, a first of its kind. This allows the government a margin for spending in accordance with annual plans without the need to enact a new budget each year, while obligating it to submit detailed schedules annually to determine spending priorities.
