A security source in Anbar province reported Tuesday that the United States has introduced a more advanced air defense system for its forces stationed at the Ain al-Asad base in western Anbar.
The source told Al-Maalouma, “US forces have developed a new air defense system against drones, missiles, and explosive devices to protect the Ain al-Assad air base in the al-Baghdadi area of Hit district, west of Anbar, coinciding with the arrival of large military convoys to the base building after suddenly evacuating their positions in Syria.”
He added, “The introduction of a more advanced air defense system came in response to American expectations that US forces stationed at the Al-Assad base would face a threat in the coming period.”
He explained that “US forces have also begun constructing new watchtowers around the base building to increase security fortifications,” stressing that “the Trump administration has shown great interest in fortifying the Ain al-Assad base building, contrary to the tendencies of previous US presidents.”
