Iraqi Airways Close to Lifting EU Ban in 2025

The Ministry of Transport announced, today, Thursday, the continuation of implementing the requirements of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) as part of its efforts to lift the European ban imposed on Iraq.
The Ministry’s media office stated in a statement received by /Al-Maalouma/ agency, that “Iraqi Airways is working to obtain the (IOSA) program during 2025, which is an essential step towards lifting the European ban, then obtaining the (TCO) certificate, after which the national carrier will be flying in Iraqi airspace.”
He pointed out that “the ministry continues its commitments to end air restrictions and achieve the required standards to lift the European ban on the national carrier.”
He pointed out that “the ministry is proceeding according to the specified timetables in coordination with the International Air Transport Association, indicating that among the requirements that Iraqi Airways is working to meet are standardizing the model and returning idle aircraft, as well as supporting the company with specialized crews, as well as diversifying service providers, in addition to implementing the aircraft performance monitoring system, improving the quality assurance system to ensure compliance with all requirements, and updating the company’s work manuals.”
He continued, “The implementation of the electronic bag system is a procedure that will ultimately be in addition to that, the company has worked to use global systems in the field of planning and controlling the aircraft maintenance program by contracting with foreign companies and service providers in the field of ground services and cargo.”
He pointed out that “some of the requirements are not limited to Iraqi Airways only, but include the Civil Aviation Authority.”
The statement concluded that “the rate of progress in lifting the European ban was almost non-existent previously, while now Iraqi Airways is proceeding with its procedures in a manner consistent with the plans set and in coordination with the specialized IATA team.”
