Member of the Parliamentary Legal Committee, MP Mohammed Anouz, confirmed on Wednesday that there is difficulty in passing the amendment to the budget law for the region’s oil, due to the presence of parliamentary objections from many MPs, most notably the Front of Representatives of the Center and the South.
Anouz said in a statement to Al-Maalouma Agency, “The approval of the current year’s budget faces the problem of voting on amending paragraph 12A of the federal budget sent by the government due to the presence of parliamentary objections from many representatives, most notably the Front of Representatives of the Center and the South.”
He added, “The amendment included a paragraph calculating the costs of producing, transporting and exporting the region’s oil at 16, which some considered an exaggerated number and a waste of public treasury funds, exclusively for the benefit of the region.”
He added, “The objectors prefer to have the matter re-audited by specialized and neutral parties to know the real figure of these costs.”
He explained that “the passing of the law will not proceed without full conviction or through political consensus, as happened in the controversial laws that were passed during the previous session.”
The House of Representatives session on Sunday, January 19, witnessed a quorum being broken by the representatives leaving the hall after reaching a vote on a paragraph in the federal budget law.
