MP on amending the budget law: It has become “controversial” and difficult to pass

Shafaq News/ The Iraqi parliament member, Kazem Al-Fayyadh, confirmed today, Tuesday, that there is a real difficulty in passing the amendment to the budget law, describing the amendment as “controversial.”
Al-Fayadh told Shafaq News Agency, “There is a major division within the House of Representatives regarding passing the amendment to the budget law sent by the Iraqi government, and this amendment has become one of the controversial laws, and therefore there is difficulty in passing it during the upcoming sessions of this week or next week.”
He added, “The objection to the amendment of the budget law is not from some independent representatives from the center and south, but even from representatives of the major blocs and parties, and this matter has complicated the scene, and this controversial amendment requires a comprehensive political understanding and agreement, so that it can be passed, as was the case with the three controversial laws that the Iraqi parliament voted on during the past few days.”
The House of Representatives session on Sunday, January 19, witnessed a quorum being broken by the deputies leaving the hall after reaching a vote on a paragraph in the federal budget law.
Article 12 of the draft budget law includes compensation for the Kurdistan Regional Government for the costs of production and transportation of oil extraction in the region.
