Economic expert Nabil Al-Marsoumi confirmed today, Monday, that non-oil revenues in Iraq did not achieve the targeted level in the general budget, despite government statements about increasing them.
Al-Marsoumi said in a statement to Al-Maalouma Agency, “The government expected that non-oil revenues would reach 30 trillion dinars, but the actual figures amounted to only 7.18 trillion dinars, which represents less than 25% of the figure specified in the budget.”
He pointed out that “oil revenues still constitute 90% of the state’s total revenues, which leads to an unstable economic situation due to excessive reliance on one source of income.”
He stressed that “maximizing non-oil revenues requires activating collection in service ministries such as electricity, municipalities, and the Baghdad Municipality, in addition to improving the performance of border crossings and customs.”
He called on “the government to expedite the implementation of these reforms to ensure financial and economic stability and reduce dependence on oil as a major source of revenue.”
Iraq is considered one of the most oil-dependent countries, with oil revenues accounting for more than 90% of its recent budget.
