Member of the Unified Anbar Alliance, Mohammed Daham, considered that the dismissed Parliament Speaker, Mohammed al-Halbousi, seeks to continue to cling to power for fear of opening major files against him.
Daham told Al-Maalouma, “Al-Halbousi is determined to stay inside Iraq, and this comes as a result of his efforts to have a role in the political process and participate in power.”
He added, “If Halbousi leaves the country and stays away from the political process, he is well aware that many major files will be opened against him.”
He explained that “Al-Halbousi is trying to hold on to the position of Speaker of the House of Representatives, to ensure his weight in the political process and to market himself as a leader of the Sunni component, despite the fact that most of the figures who assumed the presidency of the parliament never thought of leadership.”
