Who will prevail.. Eyes are watching the Saturday of elections between Al-Issawis framework chances and Israr TaqaddamShafaq News/ Political circles within the corridors of the Iraqi Parliament are awaiting, tomorrow, Saturday, with great caution, awaiting the election session of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, nearly half a year after the removal of its former speaker, Muhammad al-Halbousi, with differing opinions about the priority of electing Mahmoud al-Mashhadani, or Salem al-Issawi.

It seems that Al-Issawi has greater chances in light of the support of the “Shiite” coordination framework, and he is a candidate for the Sovereignty Alliance led by Khamis Al-Khanjar, while the Taqadum Party insists that the new Speaker of Parliament be among its members and believes that the position is his right, and Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani supports holding the position.

After midnight last Sunday, the “Sadara” parliamentary bloc announced joining the “Taqaddum” party led by Muhammad al-Halbousi, according to a statement from the bloc received by Shafaq News Agency, in a decision that would advance a candidate for the presidency of the Iraqi parliament.

The “Sadara” bloc includes four representatives: Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani, Talal Al-Zubaie, Khaled Al-Obaidi, and Muhammad Nouri Abd Rabbo.

Following the announcement of the Sadara bloc joining the Taqadum party, an informed political source revealed that the party and the bloc announced the nomination of Mahmoud al-Mashhadani as a candidate for the presidency of Parliament.

The source told Shafaq News Agency that the nomination received support from Al-Halbousi and the withdrawal of Talal Al-Zubaie, leaving Al-Mashhadani to remain a solo candidate against Salem Al-Issawi.

Earlier today, the House of Representatives set next Saturday as the date for electing its new speaker, according to a brief statement received by Shafaq News Agency.

Al-Mashhadani (75 years old) headed the Iraqi Parliament from 2006 to 2009.

While the Al-Fatah Alliance, led by Hadi Al-Amiri, confirmed last Wednesday that MP Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani is the candidate of the leader of the State of Law coalition, Nouri Al-Maliki, for presidency of the House of Representatives.

After the Sadara bloc, which included Al-Mashhadani, allied with the Taqadum bloc, the election of the Speaker of Parliament changed dramatically, especially since this bilateral alliance now had a Sunni parliamentary majority, in addition to the prominent and influential Sunni political leaders in the scene, according to the leader in Al-Fatah, Mahmoud Al-Hayani.

The Sadara bloc includes four representatives: Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani, Talal Al-Zubaie, Khaled Al-Obaidi, and Muhammad Nouri Al-Abd Rabbo, in addition to a number of political leaders.

According to Al-Hayani, who spoke to Shafaq News Agency, according to recent developments, the majority of the coordination framework went towards voting on Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani as Speaker of Parliament, especially since the framework supports the Sunni bloc that has the majority of the component’s seats, in order to preserve political custom, and this majority was achieved after the lead bloc allied itself. With a block of progress.”

He pointed out that “Al-Mashhadani is the candidate of the leader of the State of Law coalition, Nouri Al-Maliki, and Al-Maliki has a strong say within the coordination framework, and that is why the majority of the framework forces will vote in favor of Al-Mashhadani, during next Saturday’s session dedicated to electing the Speaker of Parliament.”

The position of Speaker of the House of Representatives belongs to the Sunnis, according to the prevailing political custom in Iraq since the formation of the political system after the year 2003, while the position of Prime Minister goes to the Shiites, and the President of the Republic goes to the Kurds.

Attention is turning to the parliament session scheduled for next Saturday, to elect a new speaker of the House of Representatives, after failing to settle this election four times, and failing to find an alternative to Al-Halbousi due to the lack of consensus on a single candidate, in light of the Sunni fragmentation and the coordination framework’s insistence on nominating new figures or maintaining Mohsen Al-Mandalawi, First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, as Acting Speaker.

It is noteworthy that three Sunni candidates are currently competing for the position: Salem Al-Issawi, who received 97 votes during the first session held last January, Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani, who received 48 votes, and Talal Al-Zubaie, who received one vote.

The candidate, Salem Al-Issawi, is Salem Matar Abdel Hassan, an Iraqi politician born in 1972, holds a master’s degree, and is a former member of the Anbar Governorate Council (2010-2014), and a representative in the Iraqi Parliament for Anbar Governorate in its third session (2014-2014). 2018), and a member of the Iraqi Parliament in its current session.

The other candidate is Mahmoud Daoud Salman Musa Al-Mashhadani, born (May 20, 1948). He is an Iraqi politician and parliamentarian. He participated in the political process after 2003. He was the first speaker of the House of Representatives after the fall of President Saddam Hussein’s rule, and he was the head of the political bureau of the Preaching and Guidance Organization. He participated as a member in establishing the National Dialogue Council in 2004 and was elected as a member of the Constitution Drafting Committee in the same year. After winning membership in the Iraqi Parliament, he was elected President of the Council on March 16, 2006 until December 23, 2008. He was elected President of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union in 2008.
