Today, Monday, member of the State of Law coalition, Saad Al-Muttalabi, called on the government of Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani to move on two internal and external paths to accept Iraq’s request to end the mission of the United Nations Mission in Iraq (UNAMI).
Al-Muttalabi told Al-Maalouma, “The request submitted by the Sudanese government to the Secretary-General of the United Nations to end UNAMI’s work in Iraq must be supported internally and externally in order to vote to accept it in the UN Security Council.”
He added, “The internal track is related to intensifying efforts to bring together all political forces to end the mission’s work. The second track is a serious and intensive move by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs towards the permanent member states to make the international community understand that Iraq enjoys a state of security and political stability.”
Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani had officially requested the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Guterres, to end the work of the United Nations mission in Iraq, as the request concluded that there was no need to continue its work, given the positive developments and important achievements that have been achieved in Iraq in various security, political, economic, and social fields, and its regional relations.
