On Friday, a member of the Parliamentary Security Committee, Representative Yasser Iskandar, monitored 3 positive results in the war on counterfeit currency in Iraq.
Iskandar said in an interview with Al-Ma’louma, “Counterfeiting currencies, whether local or foreign, is a source of challenge, especially with the presence of international mafias involved in this process, which seek to reap huge profits in addition to creating confusion in the financial market and the economy due to the great damage it causes.”
He added, “The Ministry of Interior, through specialized teams, succeeded in directing more than 10 specific strikes during the past months against the currency counterfeiting machine and its networks in Iraq and seizing huge sums of money, whether local or foreign,” pointing out that “the war on counterfeit currencies demonstrated the ability and efficiency of the security teams, in addition to… Citizens cooperated in providing information that helped expose some of them, not to mention the growing community awareness about how to detect counterfeit currencies through interaction with security instructions.”
He pointed out that “the counterfeiting of currencies has not ended, but it has decreased greatly, but citizen cooperation and interaction with security and awareness instructions remains an influential factor in its spread in the markets.”
The Ministry of Interior announced, through multiple statements, the seizure and dismantling of networks involved in counterfeiting local and foreign currencies in recent months.
