On Monday, political analyst Sabah Al-Ukaili criticized the continued meetings of US Ambassador Elena Romanowski with Iraqi officials, while stressing that the American occupation was no longer only military, but had also extended to the economic aspect.
Al-Ugaili said in his speech to the Maalouma Agency, “The American ambassador has reached advanced stages in the file of interference in the country’s internal affairs,” pointing out that “the United States of America continues to install itself as guardian of Iraq.”
He continued, “Foreign Minister Fouad Hussein’s silence regarding the American ambassador’s violations exacerbated the ambassador’s interference in Iraqi affairs,” noting that “all political and popular demands confirm the necessity of ending what the American ambassador is pursuing.”
He continued, “All meetings are in violation of the law and the international agreement (Vienna) because it stipulates that meetings are held by peers only,” pointing out that “the American occupation is no longer only military, but has turned to the economic aspect as well.”
The Minister of Commerce, Atheer Al-Ghurairi, had met earlier today with the US Ambassador to Baghdad, Elena Romanowski, to discuss files for developing economic and trade relations and the Ministry’s procedures within the food basket project, according to a statement by the Ministry.
Member of the House of Representatives, Muhammad Al-Sayhoud, confirmed in an interview with the Al-Ma’louma Agency, that “there is no connection between the American embassy and the simple citizen’s loaf of food basket,” noting that “the United States of America has presented its interests at the expense of the country in all files.”
