The number of bank accounts in Iraqi banks increased by about 14% during the first nine months of the year 2023, reaching 10.02 million accounts at the end of last September.
The fastest growth rate was for current accounts, reaching 17.7% to reach 3.54 million accounts. While the largest share remained in favor of savings accounts, the number of which increased by 11% to reach 5.55 million accounts.
The number of bank cards also increased by about 14% to reach 18.5 million cards, and the number of ATMs increased by about 30% to reach 2,900 machines, according to what Iqtisad Al-Sharq published with Bloomberg.
