Shafaq News/ On Monday, the leader of the Sadrist movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, called on his supporters to boycott the provincial council elections, promising that this would reduce their legitimacy externally and internally.
Al-Sadr said in his response to a question from his supporters about participating in the elections, “One of the most important things that distinguishes the Sadrist base is its unity, obedience, and loyalty, and this is what the nations brag about, and praise be to God.. and you must commit to reform even if Muqtada al-Sadr dies.”
He added, “Your participation with the corrupt saddens me greatly… Your boycott of the elections is something that makes me happy and angers hostility… It reduces the legitimacy of the elections internationally and internally and reduces the dominance of the corrupt and subservient people over our beloved Iraq, may God Almighty protect it from all evil and from every corrupt and unjust person.”
Al-Sadr continued, “Then the global and regional situation is affecting the situation in Iraq… and with it we must be constantly vigilant and prepared, as the enemy is lurking in our Iraq and our sanctities, so please be careful.”
On June 15, 2022, the leader of the Sadrist movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, said that he had decided to withdraw from the political process in the country and not to participate in any future elections so as not to partner with “corrupt” politicians.
Al-Sadr’s announcement came during his meeting in Najaf with representatives of the Sadrist bloc, who submitted their resignation from Parliament 8 months after the legislative elections were held (which took place on 10/10/2021).
After the withdrawal of the Sadrists, the coordination framework, which includes all the Shiite forces except the Sadrist movement, was able to form the government in agreement with the Kurdish and Sunni blocs, in October 2022, headed by Muhammad Shiaa al-Sudani.
