The representative of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, Jay Taymur, confirmed, on Saturday, the existence of a political consensus to pass the oil and gas law during the current parliamentary session.
Taymur said in an interview with Al-Maalouma agency, “Parliament is preparing during its next legislative session to discuss the laws agreed upon by the State Administration Coalition, including the oil and gas law.”
He added that “the law has become the subject of political consensus before it was approved in the House of Representatives,” noting that “negotiations and dialogues between the governments of Baghdad and Erbil regarding the oil and gas law have set some general lines to speed up the law.”
He explained that “the legislation of the law was part of the political agreement within the State Administration Coalition prior to the formation of the Sudanese government, so its passage will be inevitable.”
The Parliamentary Oil, Gas and Natural Resources Committee had pledged to overcome the differences between the federal government and the regional government by approving the oil and gas law, indicating that passing the law is sufficient to resolve the crises between the two parties.
