Security expert Aqil al-Taie detailed, on Wednesday, the United States’ decision to extend the state of emergency in Iraq for an additional year, while stressing that the decision came to destabilize the stable security situation in Iraq with the new government.

Al-Taei said in an interview with Al-Maalouma agency, “The success of the security forces and the popular crowd in destroying the hideouts of ISIS terrorist gangs through pre-emptive operations does not appeal to Washington, as it is working to aggravate the situation with this decision,” noting that “there are several contradictions in the many decisions he made.” Biden in the Middle East, especially after the agreement to restore international relations between Iran and Saudi Arabia, which was a painful blow to Washington.

He continued, “The US administration admitted its failure to take the decision to extend the state of emergency, which violated the strategic security agreement with Iraq,” adding that “the decision came as a result of the confusion of US policy and the impact of the Ukrainian war, and the decline of its role in the Middle East as well.”

And the security expert went on: “This decision will be followed by new sanctions that will include a number of countries in the Middle East in order to bargain and restore control that has receded recently,” noting that “Washington will take this decision as an excuse to keep the US combat forces inside Iraq.”

The decision faced a wave of criticism from all popular, political and international circles, given the state of stability in which Iraq is living at all levels, especially after the liberation and victory over the terrorist gangs of ISIS.
