According to the Mehr News Agency, quoting the Ministry of Oil, Jawad Oji indicated, after a meeting with Iraqi Electricity Minister Ziyad Ali Fadel, the signing of a memorandum of cooperation between Iran and Iraq in the field of oil, gas and petrochemicals.

Oji added, “Iran, in terms of human capital and technical and engineering capabilities, has a high position. Therefore, based on the memorandum that was signed with the Iraqi side, we will cooperate with Iraq in the field of exchanging information and exploration, and developing joint oil fields in the form of integrating the development of these fields.”

He explained that “the establishment of oil and gas pipelines and the improvement of Iraqi oil refineries are among the other axes mentioned in the memorandum of understanding between the two countries,” explaining: “One of the achievements of this trip is the extension of the gas export contract with the Iraqi Ministry of Oil.

Pointing out that Iran has two gas contracts with two power stations in Baghdad and Basra, the oil minister added: Based on the agreement of the two parties, these two contracts will be extended over the next five years.

During the meeting of the Minister of Oil with Iraqi officials, they discussed areas of cooperation between Iran and Iraq in the field of oil, gas and petrochemicals, and the two sides stressed the reduction of existing obstacles in the field of gas and cooperation with taking serious and pioneering decisions in this field.

A memorandum of cooperation between Iran and Iraq in the fields of oil, gas and petrochemicals was signed on Wednesday evening, last week, in the presence of the Iraqi Prime Minister between the oil ministers of the two countries.

In these meetings, which were accompanied by the presence of senior Iraqi officials such as the ministers of oil and electricity, Iraqi Prime Minister Muhammad Shia’ al-Sudani presented positive proposals in the field of developing oil fields, training manpower and implementing petrochemical projects, which were welcomed by both sides.

According to the Iran-Iraq agreement, the memorandum signed between the two parties will be followed up through the meetings of the higher joint working group between the two countries.

Javad Auchi arrived in Baghdad last Wednesday at the head of a high-level delegation to meet and consult with Iraqi officials. Upon his arrival, he was received by the Iraqi Deputy Oil Minister Basem Muhammad Khudair and Muhammad Kazem Al Sadeq, the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Iraq.
