A member of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, Ghiath Al-Sorji, confirmed that the outstanding issues between Baghdad and Erbil do not constitute an obstacle to sending the budget by the government to Parliament for a vote on it.
Al-Sorji told Al-Maalouma, that “the central government can pass the budget and present it to Parliament for a vote on it after the proportion of the region and the prescribed share is decided, and therefore the delay in the budget did not occur because of the dispute between Baghdad and Erbil.”
He added, “The differences between Baghdad and Erbil are not considered the main reason for the delay in sending the budget, as the differences need to be resolved between the two parties, especially with regard to oil data and the population ratios according to which the budget is determined.”
And he indicated that “the region, since 2014, has not received any budget despite the allocation of funds within the budgets for the region, but it was not spent due to the lack of solutions between Baghdad and Erbil regarding oil revenues and imports of border crossings, and therefore there is a delay in salaries for employees within the region, as the governments were It sends an amount of 200 billion dinars, taking into account the humanitarian situation of employees in the region, with the aim of handing it over as salaries to them.
