On Wednesday, legal expert Ali Al-Tamimi called for opening an investigation with the previous government for causing a rise in the exchange rates of the dollar, according to Articles 164 and 180 of the Iraqi Penal Code.
Al-Tamimi said in an interview with Al-Maalouma agency, “The previous government was aware of the procedures of the US Federal Bank and did not take any action in this regard, and this is what led to a rise in the exchange rate,” noting that “it is necessary to refer this case to the Public Prosecution in order to investigate The previous government and holding it accountable for causing the crisis of the rise in the dollar.
He continued, “It is possible to condemn the previous government, according to Articles 164 and 180 of the Iraqi Penal Code, as a result of harming the Iraqi economy.”
He pointed out that “the previous government contributed significantly to the depreciation of the Iraqi dinar against the dollar, which led to a crisis of imbalance in economic security.”
And the independent MP, Kazem Al-Touki, had earlier accused “the previous government headed by Mustafa Al-Kazemi of having failed in everything, and it cannot be called a “government” and that its economic policies are the ones that contributed to raising the price of the dollar.”
