Shafaq News/ The “Extension” parliamentary bloc considered, on Wednesday, the measures taken by the federal government to limit the rise in the exchange rate of the dollar against the Iraqi dinar, that it is not radical.
The representative of the bloc, Haider Al-Salami, said during a press conference held in the parliament building with the participation of representatives of extension and was attended by the Shafaq News agency reporter, that due to the repercussions that occurred as a result of the instability of the exchange rate of the dollar against the Iraqi dinar, and after several measures taken by more than 80 deputies, an extraordinary session was held to discuss the price of Exchange dollars, but the Presidency of Parliament did not respond to the request.
He added, “Today we stand silent in front of the demands of the masses, and the lack of radical solutions to control the exchange rate of the dollar, stressing the impact of the high prices of goods and commodities negatively affecting the segments of Iraqi society.”
Al-Salami called on the federal government to take immediate and decisive measures to control the exchange rate of the dollar.
Since November 2022, the exchange rate of the US dollar against the Iraqi dinar has witnessed a gradual increase, reaching its highest levels in recent days, as it exceeded the barrier of 165 thousand dinars per 100 dollars.
And the Federal Reserve (the US central bank) approved stricter controls on international transactions in dollars for Iraqi commercial banks in November of 2022.
The move aims to stem the illegal flow of dollars to Iran and put more pressure, along with US sanctions over Tehran’s nuclear program and other disputes, making it difficult for Tehran to obtain dollars.
