Told Israel Leon Panetta, U.S. Defense Secretary Visitor on Wednesday that time is running out for reaching a peaceful settlement of the nuclear dispute with Iran because of sanctions and strong statements about possible military action failed to change Iran’s position. Speculation is growing about whether Israel will be a military strike against Iran to halt its nuclear program which the West suspects is aimed at making an atomic bomb but Tehran says is entirely peaceful. Panetta assured Israel that the United States will not allow Iran to develop nuclear weapons. Using a strict tone indicated that military action is possible after all other options exhausted. Panetta said Wednesday: ‘This is not about containment. It’s about clarifying that they will not be able to launch from acquiring a nuclear weapon. ‘ he said in other comments on ‘If they take the decision to press ahead with a nuclear weapon … We have the options we are ready to be implemented to ensure that this happens. ‘ said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that such statements do not give a sense of little comfort, adding that Panetta himself said a few months ago ‘that if all else fails how the other will act in America.’ Netanyahu said Panetta, standing beside the prime minister’s residence in Jerusalem, ‘no matter how strong our statements, it did not convince Iran that we are serious about preventing them.’ said ‘in the current Iranian regime believes that the international community does not have the will to halt its nuclear program. This must change and must change quickly because the time to solve this issue peacefully is running out. ‘ for Reuters
