The Federal Court temporarily suspends the procedures for the election of Zebari

The Iraqi News Agency said that the Iraqi Federal Court decided, today, Sunday, to temporarily suspend the procedures for electing the leader of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, Hoshyar Zebari, for the post of President of the Iraqi Republic, pending the resolution of a lawsuit regarding his candidacy.
The lawsuit relates to Zebari’s previous accusations of financial and administrative corruption and abuse of influence.
On September 23, 2016, the Iraqi parliament voted to withdraw confidence from Zebari, on charges of corruption, and he was dismissed from his post.
The Kurdistan Democratic Party presented its candidate for the presidency of Iraq, Hoshyar Zebari, while the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan insisted on renewing the current president, Barham Salih.
Zebari was the candidate of the tripartite agreement, between al-Sadr, al-Halbousi and Barzani, in light of the polarization between the framework and the Sadrist movement.”
The coordination framework tends to support the current Iraqi president, Barham Salih.
