A number of deputies called on Thursday, President of the Republic, Barham Salih, to withdraw his resignation.
Representative Abboud Al-Issawi said in a joint press conference with deputies from different blocs, that “in this difficult circumstance that the country is going through and in the atmosphere of the demands made by the masses of demonstrators throughout Iraq to reform and fight corruption, and commitment to the values and the constitution, and in these spheres, there is a struggle of wills in Diagnosing who is assigned to head the next government, and we are surprised today that the President of the Republic, Barham Salih, is ready to submit his resignation to the House of Representatives, and he has sent a book on that.
He added, “In this atmosphere, we are asking the President of the Republic, Barham Salih, that the supreme interest necessitates him being the protector of the constitution by refraining from resignation and bearing legal and constitutional responsibility at this dangerous stage,” explaining, “Let everyone hear that we reject this resignation and we will be a help to the President of the Republic to complete the march and apply the principles that I took it at this point. ”
The President of the Republic, Barham Salih, announced today, Thursday, his readiness to resign from his post.
“I apologize for not being able to hand over the post of Prime Minister of Iraq to Asaad Al-Eidani, and I am ready to submit my resignation to the Iraqi parliament,” he said in his message to parliament.
He said, “My national responsibility in this circumstance requires me to resign.” He added, “I submit my resignation to avoid violating a constitutional principle.”
He also stressed that “the position of the President of the Republic must respond to the will of the people”, so “I place my willingness to resign in front of the Iraqi parliament.”
He added: “In light of the merits imposed by the right protest movement for our people, it is imperative that we look at the supreme national interest before looking at personal and political considerations.”
He considered that “the country’s supreme interests today impose a national responsibility on the president to support an understanding about the candidate to head the next government, and the interest requires that it be a calming factor and respond to the will of the Iraqi people, who is the source of the legitimacy of all authorities.”
