A leader of the Anbar province, Abdullah al-Jughifi, said on Tuesday that criminal gangs have called on residents of the western regions to join their ranks or pay a ransom of $ 500.
“Gangs are urging criminals in the areas of Raw, Rawah and al-Qaim, west of Al-Anbar. They have called on the people of these areas to join their ranks or pay a ransom of 500 dollars for each individual to cover their employees’ salaries,” he said.
“The people of these areas are going through extraordinary circumstances in addition to the difficult living situation, forcing them to pay fictitious sums to forgive the individuals held by these gangs as human shields,” he said.
