Saudi Arabia and Iraq have agreed to open the port of “New Arar” border formally and permanently after a closure of 27 years, in a move that will transfer relations between the two countries to a wider perspective and return to the former era. According to Saudi media
The benefits of re-opening the port are to increase the movement of trade exchange, stimulate economic movement, facilitate the movement of Iraqi pilgrims and pilgrims, in addition to strengthening the links and family and tribal ties between the two sides.
New Arar is 50 km north of Arar and 15 km from the Iraqi border.
Saudi Arabia and Iraq also have two ports: New Arar and Jamima near Rafha, but the Arar port is the official and reliable between the two countries for more than 50 years until the closure in 1991, that is during the second Gulf War. And its use has been limited during the past years to facilitate the entry of Iraqi pilgrims every year.
