A member of the parliamentary finance committee for the Kurdistan Alliance Najiba Najib that alliance will not vote to pass the current year budget in 2014 unless it addressed the points of contention between the province and the center.

Najib added that “in the absence of addressing the problems of the previous budget and the outstanding points of contention between Kurdistan and Baghdad, will not vote on this budget.”

Najib explained that “the parties and the Kurdish forces sent a request to the federal government urging to include amendments to the budget, solving the problems of oil relationship between Arbil and Baghdad.”

She noted that “the Kurdistan Alliance demanded Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi not linked to the budget disagreements oil lingering between Erbil and Baghdad, with the cancellation of penalty clauses and punitive consequences on the region, as stated in the text of the budget.”

It continued: “Parliament is expected from the government to hold the final wording of the draft federal budget for 2014, which will be presented once they are received from the government for the first and second reading and then vote on them.”

And confirmed a member of the Parliamentary Finance Committee that “there is continuity currently among the delegation negotiating the Kurdish Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi about modifying the federal budget,” pointing out that “the current negotiations are focused on the points of contention about the oil and gas that will help pass the budget”.
