EU offers Iraq $6.85m in humanitarian aid

The European Union on Monday in Luxembourg, approved 6.8 million dollars in humanitarian aid to Iraq, for it to cope with people displaced by the insurgency.

The bloc’s foreign ministers said the EU expresses its deep concern about the rapidly deteriorating security situation in Iraq.

They urged the Iraqi authorities to protect civilians and respect international humanitarian law.

The ministers said failure to jointly combat the threat would exacerbate the conflict and deepen the sectarian divide.

They challenged the new government to take decisive measures to promote an inclusive approach, address the needs and legitimate aspirations of all components of Iraqi society.
