Maliki said that “the goal of his visit to Japan was to deepen bilateral relations in order to achieve the common interests of the two friendly countries,” expressing his welcome to “visit of Japanese Prime Minister of Iraq and saying it will be an important opportunity for the development of bilateral relations and upgrade them to the level of ambition of the two countries.”

For his part, the Japanese ambassador congratulated the successful parliamentary elections in the country, stressing his country’s desire to develop relations with Iraq in all fields.

He said that Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe plans to visit Baghdad as soon as possible after the formation of the new Iraqi government, stressing that “Japan and parking, along with Iraq in the fight against terrorism.”
