Planning: lower poverty index in Iraq to 18%

Index of poverty in Iraq to 18% compared to 23% in 2007, according to preliminary indications of the Ministry of Planning and Development Cooperation. The ministry said it will announce the final results of the poverty level will be the next month of June.

He said ministry spokesman Abdul Zahra al-Hindawi said that “the objective of the survey is to see the level of poverty in Iraq and their locations and to develop the necessary plans to eliminate them within the five-year plans set by the Iraqi government represented by the Ministry of Planning.”

He added that “the survey sample included 311 thousand is the largest of its kind in the history of Iraq and the region,” noting that “the sample have been selected from all provinces and distributed between rural and urban areas.”
