Said Ashti Hawrami, minister of natural resources in the Kurdistan Regional Government of Iraq that the region would go ahead with the establishment of its own pipeline to export oil to Turkey despite the objections of the United States, because of fears that the project could lead to the disintegration of Iraq.

Hawrami added that the region wants a pipeline of its own, and that work was underway to create it and will continue until completion.

The crude oil from the fields of Kurdistan convey to the world market via pipeline to Turkey is controlled by Baghdad, but exports through the pipeline stopped in December from a peak of $ 200 thousand barrels per day because of a dispute with Baghdad over payments.
