The spokesman for the Reconstruction and Development Bloc, former MP Firas Al-Muslawi, confirmed on Tuesday that the federal government’s obligation of the Kurdistan Region’s border crossings to operate according to the ASYCUDA electronic system and hand over customs revenues to the central government has contributed to boosting the state treasury’s revenues, noting that the revenues of the border crossings during the past month amounted to 560 billion dinars.
Al-Muslawi told Al-Maalomah that the federal government has successfully compelled the region’s border crossings to operate under the ASYCUDA system and transfer customs revenue to the central government. He explained that “this step represents progress in border crossing management and maximizing non-oil revenues, despite ongoing efforts to fully control some crossings.”
He added that “most of the region’s border crossings are now under the supervision of the federal government, with the revenues generated being transferred to the central treasury, thanks to the implementation of the ASYCUDA electronic system, which contributes to streamlining customs procedures, monitoring the movement of goods, and curbing smuggling and manipulation.”
Al-Muslawi explained that “the system includes an integrated network of cameras, computers, and electronic systems, which helps track the entry of goods and ensure their compliance with approved specifications,” as well as reducing the entry of smuggled or non-compliant materials.
He pointed out that “the system’s implementation has contributed to generating significant revenue for the state treasury,” noting that “total revenues collected last month reached 560 billion Iraqi dinars.”
It should be noted that there are four officially registered border crossings approved by the federal government, and their revenues go to Baghdad. Meanwhile, there are other unofficial crossings run by influential figures and political parties.
