Anbar Alliance member Ahmed Abdullah al-Dulaimi revealed on Monday that the Trump administration had secretly requested Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi to close 17 border crossings between Iraq and Iran used for trade, in a move to economically strangle Iran through Iraq.
Al-Dulaimi told the Information Agency, “The Trump administration asked Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi to close 17 border crossings with Iran used for trade with Iraq as part of an American plan aimed at economically strangling Iran through Iraq.” He noted that “al-Zaidi did not object to the American request, even though the decision harms his country’s interests due to the Iraqi market’s reliance on imported Iranian goods.”
He added, “Closing the borders with Iran is a policy to tighten the siege on Tehran by America and to draw Iraq into being a key player in carrying out this task, indicating that the Trump administration is working to drag Iraq into the regional conflict to sow chaos.”
