On Monday, the Federal Ministry of Finance directed the formation of a specialized committee to investigate and audit the files of loans, advances, and insurance amounts related to electronic lending, the decline in financial liquidity levels, as well as the file of foreign branches and investment projects on which the granting of financial facilities was based, in addition to the file of contracts.

According to the document issued by the ministry, the committee is responsible for reviewing and auditing the files, documents and guarantees related to the amounts granted, and verifying the integrity of the procedures followed and the bases on which the granting of loans, advances and financial facilities was based.

The committee’s tasks also include monitoring any violations, breaches, or suspicions of corruption that may emerge during the audit and investigation work, and preparing a detailed report that includes the results, observations, and relevant parties or files.

The report is scheduled to be submitted to the regulatory bodies in the Ministry of Finance, the Central Bank of Iraq, the Federal Board of Supreme Audit, and the Integrity Commission, to take the necessary legal and administrative measures, each according to its jurisdiction.

This comes at a time when an informed source revealed to Shafaq News Agency that there are pressures to influence the work of the investigation committees formed in the state banks, which are looking into several financial, administrative and legal files, including advances, loans, investment projects and insurance premium amounts for electronic lending, as well as the decline in financial liquidity levels and the file of foreign branches.

As revealed by sources on September 5, the Integrity Commission and the relevant regulatory bodies conducted investigations and audits regarding a number of financial and banking files, most notably the decline in financial liquidity levels at government banks, the granting of loans and financing of investment projects, as well as the special and exceptional approvals granted by government banks, particularly Al-Rafidain and Al-Rasheed banks, during the previous period.
