The price of the dollar in the Iranian free market jumped on Monday, exceeding the 240,000 toman mark, to reach a selling price of 243,550 tomans, compared to 236,050 tomans on Sunday.
According to exchange rate monitoring data, which was reviewed by Shafaq News Agency, the dollar rose by 7,500 tomans, or 3.18%, in one day, while its purchase price reached 241,100 tomans.
The selling price recorded today is the highest in the data for the year.
The decline of the Iranian currency comes amid continued economic pressures and US sanctions.
The jump coincides with the uncertainty surrounding the course of talks between Tehran and Washington, as US President Donald Trump announced his rejection of an Iranian proposal for de-escalation, but predicted that talks would resume this week.
The dispute includes conditions for reopening the Strait of Hormuz and lifting the embargo and sanctions imposed on Iranian oil.
